The Ontario government has initiated a major review of the province's social assistance programs.
The Social Assistance Review Commission began its work in January 2011 and will finish in June 2012. It is being led by two commissioners, Frances Lankin and Dr. Munir Sheikh.
The commission visited Niagara on July 5, 2011 to consult with social service agencies, social assistance recipients, employers and other stakeholders about how to reform social assistance in Ontario.

As part of the Commission's engagement process, it has published a discussion paper (short version is the "Summary and Workbook" document) which can be reviewed.
