Ontario/Welland Avenue Trunk Watermain and Local Infrastructure Improvements

Background
Niagara Region is proceeding with construction of a trunk watermain project (Contract RN 10-31) within the City of St. Catharines to improve the water supply to the City. This project is being completed as a Schedule A+ project as outlined in the MEA/MOE Municipal Class Environmental Assessment Process. The contract consists of the replacement of the existing trunk watermain from Highway 406 at Geneva Street and along Geneva and Court Streets. A new trunk watermain will be also be constructed along Welland Avenue, northerly on Ontario Street and connected to the existing trunk watermain located at Kensington Place. A new sanitary sewer will also be constructed along Welland Avenue from Ontario Street to approximately Clark Street. The contract includes replacement of existing City watermains and storm sewers on Ontario Street from Welland Avenue to just north of Beech Street.
Schedule
The contract is currently being tendered and contract award is planned for January, 2011. Construction is anticipated to commence in February, 2011 and be completed by the fall of 2011.
A Public Information Centre is being held to present the details of the project. Interested members of the public, business community and agencies are encouraged to attend. The Public Information Centre will follow an Open House format with information pertaining to the project on display and members of the project team on hand to discuss any questions or concerns you may have.
