Notice of Study Commencement - Municipal Class Environmental Assessment
Niagara Region has initiated a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment Study for the Reece Bridge in the Township of West Lincoln. The Reece Bridge currently carries Regional Road 69 (Twenty Mile Creek Road) over Twenty Mile Creek. Based on past structural inspections and recent bridge condition survey and load capacity evaluation of the bridge, the Region has identified the need to rehabilitate or replace the bridge structure.
The study is being conducted in accordance with the approved requirements for a Schedule "C" project as described in the Municipal Engineers Association's Municipal Class Environmental Assessment document (October 2000, as amended in 2007). The Class Environmental Assessment will define the need to rehabilitate the existing Reece Bridge or replace the existing bridge on the same alignment or new alignment, identify and evaluate alternative solutions including improvements to roadway safety, and determine a preferred design in consultation with regulatory agencies and the public.
A key component of the study involves consultation with interested stakeholders (public, special interest groups and regulatory agencies). The Region plans to hold two Public Information Centres to present the project, review the study scope and discuss issues related to the project including alternative solutions. The first PIC is planned for early fall 2011. Notification of the PIC will be provided at the appropriate time by means of a similar advertisement and to those on the project mailing list.
