Niagara Region is one of the first municipalities in Ontario to receive new licenses under the Municipal Drinking Water Licensing Program. These licenses were issued by the Ministry of the Environment (MOE) under the Safe Drinking Water Act, 2002.
Niagara Region already met or exceeded provincial standards prior to this new licensing program coming into affect. To receive these licenses, Niagara Region formalized a quality management system, in accordance to the Ministry's Drinking Water Quality Management Standard (DWQMS). The quality management system governs the operations of all five drinking water systems owned and operated by Niagara Region.
There will be no change for consumers in Niagara Region. You will continue to receive the safe, high quality, reliable supply of drinking water that you already enjoy.
