Click here for a larger version of this map
Niagara Region has retained Peters Excavating Inc. (Peters) to construct a new watermain to connect the Niagara Falls Water Treatment Plant system (which provides water to the property owners in Niagara Falls) with the DeCew Water Treatment Plant system (which provides water to the property owners in Thorold, St. Catharines, and Niagara-on-the-Lake). Hatch Mott MacDonald (HMM) has been retained by Niagara Region to provide the construction engineering services for this project. This watermain will improve the fire flow capacity and increase the system security. The location of the new watermain is indicated on the attached sketch.

The contract also includes construction of local sanitary sewers for the City of Thorold along Allanburg Road from a point just west of Davis Road (Hwy 58) to the Peel Street Sewage Pumping Station. The attached sketch also shows the location of this sewer.

Construction of this project is expected to start in late January 2009 and continue for an estimated 12 months until completion in January, 2010. Peters staff has indicated that the initial construction activity will be as follows:

  1. Several test pits at various locations along the route of the project including Allanburg Road at Deerfield; Allanburg Road, south of Pioneer Village, north of Fire Station #2; Allanburg Road in front of Fire Station #2; Kinsman Court; Barron Road, just east of CN tracks; Barron Road at Polloway Road ; 3 in the vicinity of Barron at the Hydro Sub-station.
  2. Installation of the watermain on Allanburg Road starting at Fire Station #2 and proceeding south along the vacant field in front of the Dana property.
  3. Installation of the watermain on Kinsmen Court along the vacant lands behind the McBain Centre.

Pre-condition home inspection surveys have already started and will continue over the next few weeks. These surveys are intended to help resolve any disputes in the unlikely event that damage due to construction should occur to your home. Your co-operation regarding these inspections is greatly appreciated.
