Plastic bags, including transparent green, orange and clear bags, are not accepted in the Region's Green Bin and Leaf and Yard Waste collection programs.
Residents have a number of options when it comes to how they store and set out their Green Bin material and Leaf/Yard Waste. You may place organic waste directly into either your Green Bin or Kitchen Catcher without the use of any liner at all. Any reusable container for your leaf and yard waste materials is also acceptable.
To line your Green Bin or Kitchen Catcher, use any of the following acceptable liners:
When shopping for certified compostable bags, they must contain one of the following logos:

Only certified compostable bags with the Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI) or the COMPOSTABLE logos identified above are accepted in the Green Bin program.
Kraft Paper Bags are also acceptable (no certification logo required).
The BPI or COMPOSTABLE logo must be visible for the bag to be collected with organics.
The following paper-based products and certified compostable bags with the BPI logo are acceptable for Niagara Region's Green Bin (organics) and Leaf and Yard Waste collection programs.
