Cost and Application Process for Long-Term Care Homes

Going for a Walk Cost

The provincial government covers the cost of all your nursing and personal care services, while you pay for your accommodation. The provincial Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care sets the rates for accommodation.

You may qualify for a rate reduction if the cost of basic accommodation is beyond your means.

If you are a veteran, you may qualify for extra financial help.

Application

The Niagara Community Care Access Centre is responsible for applications to long-term care homes in Niagara. They determine your eligibility and priority for admission and manage the waiting lists for homes.

To be eligible, most applicants must:

  • require on-site 24-hour nursing care
  • require assistance with daily living activities
  • be 18 years of age or older
  • have a valid Ontario Health Card

The Community Care Access Centre can provide you with information about local homes and their services as well as things to consider when you are choosing a home.
