Physical Activity for Stress Relief

Exercise is an important way to help keep the body healthy, and it is a good way to manage the stresses of a child’s everyday life. Exercise helps us to stay healthy, and is a great way to relax or work out frustration and anger.

It is very important for children to spend time playing because play:

  • reduces stress
  • is a time for learning
  • teaches social skills such as sharing, taking turns and working together
  • explores different roles (eg. “You are the mommy, I am the daddy”)
  • helps imagination develop
  • is fun; laughter relieves stress
  • is physical activity

Some examples of play:

  • skipping rope
  • building forts
  • dressing up
  • hide-and-seek
  • playing make believe
