No thanksThe Growth and Development Lesson Plans were developed in response to the Mandatory Program Guidelines from the Ministry of Health 1997, and the Ontario Curriculum 1998. They were created to address the concerns and questions raised by administrators and teachers who are responsible for teaching about this issue in schools.
What is sexuality education? It is an opportunity for individuals to develop the knowledge, motivation, skills and critical awareness needed to enhance health and avoid problems. Healthy sexuality education goes beyond teaching about the anatomy and physiology of reproduction. It focuses on sexual development, reproductive health, interpersonal relationships, affection, abstinence, body image and gender roles. Acquiring information and skills, and developing attitudes, beliefs and values related to identity and relationships, are lifelong processes. Students are engaged in discussion that helps them reflect on their behaviour and attitudes as well as develop the skills of effective decision-making and communication.
These programs allow students to obtain the information and develop the skills they need to make healthy, responsible decisions about their sexuality throughout their lifetime.
