Community Food Advisors - What do they do?
The role of Community Food Advisors is to promote safe and nutritious food selection, preparation, and storage practices as well as to increase access to reliable nutrition information.
Some examples of the activities undertaken by Community Food Advisors in CFA groups throughout Niagara include:
- displays and distribution of information at farmers' markets, fall fairs and health fairs
- vegetable and fruit promotion to groups of school-aged kids
- shopping and food preparation education for people new and unfamiliar to Canada
- budgeting and basic healthy eating lessons to groups of high school teens
- presentations on safe food handling to volunteer food bank workers
- cooking sessions with young mothers on how to plan healthy meals on a budget
