Ideas for the Promotion of Healthier Lunches and Snacks


Below are a few suggestions of how your school can further promote the Eat Smart School Cafeteria Program. Your promotion of the program is not limited to the examples listed below; feel free to be as creative as you want! The options are endless!

Morning announcements
Classroom activities for teachers
Supply students, staff and teachers with Canada's Food Guide
Discount Days - discount coupons are given out to encourage the consumption of a feature food item or beverage
Cooking demonstration by students - free samples are supplied and students are encouraged to try new foods
Community Food Advisors Booth (booked through Public Health)
Promote nutritious breakfast snacks that are sold before school starts
Utilize Healthy Body Image display - focuses on healthy weights awareness, fad diets, eating disorders (booked through Public Health)
Nutritious drink mix-offs
Display banners and posters around school and in cafeteria
The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario and the Canadian Cancer Society are provincial partners in this program.
