Influenza (Flu) - Seasonal

Influenza (the flu) is a serious disease caused by a virus that affects the lungs.

Signs and Symptoms of the Flu

  • a sudden high fever
  • headache
  • chills
  • loss of appetite
  • severe muscle aches and pain
  • extreme fatigue, weakness
  • sore throat, cough
  • runny nose, sneezing

The flu specifically infects the nose, throat and lungs. The flu virus is highly contagious and spreads easily from person to person.

Flu Activity Reports for Niagara

Niagara Region monitors the spread of flu and flu-like illnesses on an on-going basis. During the months of November to May, flu activity will be reported.
