The Niagara Children's Charter of Rights is based on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. The Charter is unique in that the children of Niagara directly contributed to its development. The original version of Niagara's Charter was interpreted by a group of secondary school students into "teen" style and by a grade four class into "kid" style. The resulting document has been approved and endorsed by Regional Council and by all twelve municpalities of Niagara, as well as several other community organizations. The Charter articulates a vision for the children of Niagara which recognizes their fundamental dignity and provides a framework for ensuring their well-being and healthy development.
