Children at licensed child care centres are grouped together based on their stage of development, allowing them to play and learn together. Each group must be supervised by a qualified Early Childhood Educator (ECE). Centre-based programs encourage the development of independence, trust, confidence and positive self-esteem, maximize the educational and developmental needs of all children, and promote play-based learning within a group setting with other children and a team of supporting adults. Centres are licensed by the Ministry of Children and Youth Services and adhere to the Day Nurseries Act.

Niagara Region Child Care Centres

The Niagara Region operates five licensed child care centres, serving children ranging in age from 18 months to six years. Services for children are planned, managed and delivered in ways that promote early learning and development. The Centres provide integrated programs for children with identified developmental challenges (social, physical, cognitive, behavioural, language). All staff are qualified Early Childhood Educators who are members of the College of Early Childhood Educators with a minimum two-year community college diploma. Resource Teachers are available for on-site consultation and have additional specialized training to support children with developmental challenges.
