In Niagara, Public Works delivers a wide range of services and large capital works projects. These include:
Drinking water treatment and distribution to 11 local municipalities
Wastewater collection and treatment
Development approval
Curbside garbage
Recycling and organics collection
Develops and maintains the Regional road network for residents, businesses and visitors
Planning for our Region's future, particularly in how we address our Region's infrastructure needs is a major focus of our work. Public Works is tasked with maintaining and building our regional infrastructure such as roads, bridges and water and sewage treatment plants.
Over the course of 2011 the Public Works Department will undertake more than 60 different infrastructure projects throughout Niagara worth almost $110 million. Through these projects, we will be improving our transportation network with about 50 km of road work. We are also improving the effectiveness of our water operations that supply drinking water to Niagara communities, including investing $57 million towards a safe and effective water and wastewater services.
