Benefits
Completion of the Road, Parkway and Trails System are having tremendous social, cultural and economic impact. For our communities, important heritage resources are expected to be conserved and protected. Residents of, and visitors to, the Niagara Peninsula will enjoy the recreational opportunities and the quality of life improvements the trail affords. Commercially, the project will result in increased business activity and improved business development opportunities.
Construction of the complete Road, Parkway and Trail System will result in $3,333,000 of new construction per year over a period of 15 years totaling approximately $50,000,000. Study of similar operational community assets such as The Blue Ridge Trail in Virginia led to the conclusion that once established and recognized as a tourism resource, as many as 2,600,000 visitors per year will use some or all of the Greater Niagara Circle Route spending $218,000,000.
Niagara's tourism, hospitality, gaming and wine industries will reap the benefits resulting from extended visitor stay related to trail based activities. Significant increases in economic activity as indicated cause local property values to be enhanced. Our Provincial and Federal governments will enjoy improved revenues through increased sales and income tax bases. Local governments will see new business tax bases and revenues from permits.
