John Teal,
Fort Erie

John Teal has practiced law for 36 years and represented the people of Fort Erie as Mayor and Regional Councillor.
His nine year tenure as Mayor was marked by significant achievements such as: construction of the Municipal Centre complex, Town Hall, a state-of-the-art YMCA and multi-purpose sporting facility and a centralized public works center; the establishment of a new Court of Justice Building in Fort Erie and the initiation of discussions with First Nations People which resulted in the establishment of a sacred burial ground for Native remains.
For over 17 years Councillor Teal served the Niagara Region on various Council committees including five years as Chair of the Finance Committee and he was also a member of the Niagara Social Services Committee dealing with matters related to social services. Councillor Teal was instrumental in securing the construction of Gilmore Lodge, a long-term care facility in Fort Erie and also served on the Public Works Committee.
From July 2008 through 2009, he served on the Mayor's Taskforce to keep the Douglas Memorial Hospital open and has been vocal in his condemnation of the treatment of the Fort Erie community in the area of health care delivery.
