Councillor Sharpe was first elected to Welland City Council in 2003 and was re-elected to represent Ward 2 in 2006. He is currently serving his first term as Mayor of Welland and his first term on Regional Council.
His community involvement includes chairing the Welland Safe Communities Partnership, serving as board member of the Welland Rose Festival and Welland Development Commission. He has volunteered as a coach, manager and director with Welland Minor Hockey for more than 15 years.
Councillor Sharpe retired in 2009 from Niagara College as Associate VP Academic after a 34- year career as an academic administrator and teacher. He holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in Economics from the University of Guelph.
