The purpose of the Waste Management Planning Steering Committee is to provide direction during the waste management planning process (which will result in the selection and implementation of a long-term waste disposal plan). The WMPSC reports to and makes recommendations to the Public Works and Utilities Committee.
The primary roles and responsibilities of the Waste Management Planning Steering Committee are to:
- Make recommendations to Regional Council on the selection, siting, development and implementation of alternative waste management technologies, long-term waste disposal site(s) and significant waste diversion facilities and programs
- Promote public interest and involvement in the implementation of new waste management programs and to evaluate and consider recommendations received from the Public Meetings of the WMPSC are conducted monthly and are open to the public.
